| DESIGN NAME: The Wall PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sunglasses INSPIRATION: The wall is a structure that protects and marks the boundary of personal area of someone. The visitors need to arrive the end of the wall, so they can finally find the entrance to meet the person inside. It is easy to see an ivy climbing and covering the surface of the wall. Regardless of personal relationship, nature affects the life of human. I wanted to express the harmony of the nature and a man made structure. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: In the mind of everyone, the wall exists to protect themselves. Personal relationship depends on the height and the size of the gap of this wall. The square pattern that represents the brick of the wall is placed diagonally on top of the sunglasses. It separates the open part of the sunglass with the shaded glass that expresses the boundary of the personal area. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: There are two parts of hinges on the each side of glass and connected to the leg to allow every part is functional. There are also a triangular part pierced out from the pentagon shape of glasses to create the empty space. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was designed and completed in September 2021 in Seoul, Republic of Korea. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The sunglasses were created in Matrix. The body was made in platinum, 18k yellow gold, with the colored glasses that reminds the brick of the wall. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Sunglass Part: 141 mm x 16 mm x 48 mm Leg part: 3 mm x 134 mm x 32.5 mm TAGS: Creative, Eyewear, Sunglass, CAD, Gold, Platinum, Wall, Ivy RESEARCH ABSTRACT: My research began first by observing and understanding the different type of the wall in different culture. I then decided to apply the culture into the piece. I reviewed photographs of the walls in my home country, researched the color palette, and incorporated these colors with the glass. CHALLENGE: The most challenging part of this piece was to keep the simple design, but still giving a hint of the wall covered with ivy.
