DESIGN NAME: Spiralis
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Necklace
INSPIRATION: During the time of the pandemic, the designer got himself a type of water plant; Juncus ''Spiralis'' which he took care of everyday and it gave him a sense of hope. The plant's stem grows in an interesting spiral twisted shape. This necklace is depicting the designer's imagination of the plant's spirit as a female Spiralis growing her soul and blooming around a twisted rope while swirling its root around a line of blue sapphires inside her. The hair has grown pearl holding a blue sapphire implying positivity and hope.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The unique feature of this necklace is that, unlike most pendants that have one connection spot, the Spiralis pendant is hung from three different spots where the hairs swirl around the solid rope. The designer finds asymmetrical shapes much more beautiful, and to him, there is still a balance in unequal visual weight. The dangling blue sapphires inside the necklace is another distinctive feature that has been designed in complementary to the concept behind the work.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The pendant and the rope have been considered to be made of white gold, and unheated blue sapphire is the best match for this design.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The necklace was designed in June 2021 in Tehran/Iran and finished in November 2021.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Organic forms and nature have always been a source of inspiration for the designer. Since he got a juncus plant for himself he was mesmerized by the beautiful curly shape and its unique personality and features as a living being. the designer has drawn multiple sketches and developed his idea from a primary pendant to a necklace considering the whole piece's harmony and visual properties of the plant and combined them with his imagination. After multiple sketches, the finalized sketch was recreated using 3D modeling software.
CHALLENGE: In order to find better results for sculpting the woman's head, The designer had to sketch and sculpt it numerous times until he could get a satisfying result that was closer to his imagination and looked more realistic yet magical. Based on the final sketch, the designer wanted smooth locks of hairs growing around a rope and holding the head suspended in balance. The spiralis necklace's primary design was simpler at first and it got developed step by step in favor of the concept. The rope has been designed in a firm and solid style to support the pendant also many different shapes and angles of the hair clusters have been tested.
