| DESIGN NAME: Medifier PRIMARY FUNCTION: Smart Medical Pacifier INSPIRATION: Since giving medicine to babies has become a repetitive task for parents, designing a smart pacifier has been tried to facilitate this process. It also increases the accuracy of doctors' decisions in next visits because doctors can see and monitor the exact effect of the dose of prescribed medicine through the application. This smart pacifier inserts the medicine according to the age and weight of the baby into the baby's mouth, so the baby does not suffer from gastroesophageal reflux. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Medifier is a smart pacifier that helps parents give their babies medicine with an accurate dose without any challenge and allows doctors to observe the effects of the medicines on the baby. The pacifier is equipped with a temperature sensor, and respirator number counter to monitor the medication and the baby's condition. The lighted ring around the pacifier changes color as the baby's body temperature changes, which eliminates the need for parents to check their baby's body temperature. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: First, The tanks are filled with Intended medicine. These tanks (of the capacity of 2.5 ccs) should be connected to the tube embedded then is filled with medicine like filling a dropper. The dose and the time of taking medicine are adjusted to the doctor's prescription by the application. Then, the notification is sent to the parent's phone, and the parents place the tank in the pacifier and press the pacifier's button; then medicine with a certain speed is entered the baby's mouth. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The Project was designed in Isfahan/Tehran in 2021. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This product consists of a charging base that contains a pacifier, four tanks of medicine, and a pipe. The upper part of the tank is flexible, and the medicine is sucked by squeezing it. The pacifier consists of 1) the electrical part that is equipped with a sensor, LCDs, and chargeable battery 2) a silicone nipple that is inserted into the baby's mouth. The electrical part does the opening of the air inlet of the tank. The more the air inlet of the tank increases, the more medicine comes out. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 14 mm x 90 mm x 55 mm TAGS: Pacifier, Smart pacifier, Smart Medical Pacifier, Smart Dropper RESEARCH ABSTRACT: One of the challenges that parents of babies face is when giving them medication that it must be done carefully and gradually so that the baby does not have gastroesophageal reflux disease. In some cases, the dose given by the parents to the baby may be less or more than prescribed by the doctor because it is not clear how much medicine the baby has swallowed in this difficult challenge. This argument can lead the doctor to prescribe a wrong dose of medicine in the next visits. CHALLENGE: One of the main challenges of this design was designing a pacifier for babies of different ages, so there are three nipples that come with medifier of different sizes that can be connected to the main electrical part.
