INSPIRATION: The mystery cult of Bacchus was brought to Rome from the Greek culture of southern Italy or by way of Greek-influenced Etruria. In Rome, the most well-known festivals of Bacchus were the Bacchanalia, based on the earlier Greek Dionysia festivals. Dionysus, in ancient Greek religion and myth, is the god of the grape-harvest, winemaking, orchards and fruit, vegetation, fertility, insanity, ritual madness, religious ecstasy, festivity and theatre.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Baby Bacchus is given by Mercury to the care of the Nymphs, etched and engraved by Andrea Procaccini on 18th Century. Andrea Procaccini was an Italian painter of the Baroque period, most active in Rome.
