PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Toothbrush

INSPIRATION:
Toothbrush is a common daily necessities in people's life. A large number of discarded toothbrushes and packaging have caused serious plastic pollution. Therefore, I found a good way to improve the current situation. The packaging of the toothbrush can be transformed into the handle of the toothbrush, which reduces the consumption of materials in product production. Using waste wheat husks as packaging material greatly reduces production costs and does not burden the environment. The innovative use of the product attracts people to actively participate in the action of protecting the environment and contribute to sustainable development.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The product consists of two parts: the toothbrush head and the packaging. The packaging can be transformed into a toothbrush handle and fixed by magnetic suction .The handle is combined with the toothbrush head. The reuse of toothbrush packaging can reduce the consumption of resources. The toothbrush head is made of environmentally friendly plastic and the case is made of crushed discarded wheat husks, both of which can be completely degraded in the natural environment.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
After opening the package, the user only needs to rotate one corner of the package to obtain a toothbrush handle. The toothbrush head can be inserted into the top of the handle obtained through the deformation. The unique usage process will bring users a novel experience. After replacing the toothbrush, the discarded toothbrush handle can be directly thrown into the yard as fertilizer for plants. As the toothbrush packaging was made from discarded wheat husks, the toothbrush's production and sales process would also stimulate farmers to recycle wheat husks, bringing them extra income.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project began in wuhan, China in 2019 and be completed in Wuhan, China in 2021.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Wheat shell packaging is the waste wheat shell regeneration treatment, integrated, zero glue. It is a natural, healthy packaging without any harmful chemical ingredients. After these products are aged and discarded, they can be degraded and digested by the earth, completely pollution-free to the environment.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
The length and width of the toothbrush package is 4.2cm and the height is 10cm.The handle is 3cm wide and the overall length of the toothbrush is 18cm.The size of the product follows the ergonomics, bringing users a good use experience.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The re-design of toothbrush packaging and toothbrush itself can reduce the environmental pollution of goods. The design is studied from two aspects: shape and material. The packaging can be transformed into a part of the toothbrush to reduce the consumption of materials. The toothbrush head is made of degradable plastic, and the packaging box is made from waste wheat husks, which will not bring burden to the environment after the end of the product life cycle.

CHALLENGE:
In the process of design, we tried a variety of environmental protection materials for experiments, considering the material's economy, stable physical and chemical properties and processing technology, and finally confirmed the wheat shell as the packaging material.
