DESIGN NAME: Hope
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Cocktail Ring
INSPIRATION: The inspiration of this design is the humanitarian and environmental crisis at the threshold of the World War III. The pain versus the hope. The humans versus Mother Earth. How do we set our priorities? What really matters?
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Grow flowers, not hate. The concept is created to express the pain towards the war in Ukraine in the context of the global warming. It is the hope that gives life a meaning. Having faith, perseverance through pain towards the freedom, towards the simplest of the simple – growing flowers in the flower bed by your home. The pins inside the ring shank are the metaphor of the grief. One day the flowers will grow again, but the pain will be constant – on the finger, inside the heart, inside the soul.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: From top it's just a beautiful flower ring. But there are the pins on the inside of the ring. These pins inside a shank cause the pain. The concept of the ring is art oriented.
It’s made to be not just a beautiful flower ring. The pain is a reminder to wake up, not to forget, act now, stop the war, invert the global warming, promote love and peace over hate and destruction.
I thought also about wearing option where the pins would not cause a physical pain. In this case the ring is warn on top of a thin and transparent polycarbonate sleeve which protects the skin from a direct contact with the sharp pins.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: March 2022, Zurich

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The ring is made in conflict-free white and rose gold. The ring’s shank is embellished with natural white and yellow diamonds. The flower bed represents a bouquet of different colored gemstones: white opals, white sapphires, pink sapphires, orange sapphires, yellow sapphires, light blue sapphires, green sapphires, paraiba tourmalines and green tourmalines.
This masterpiece is a result of a diligent hand work. From first idea sketched on the paper to haute joaillerie gouache drawing, 3D drawing and rendering. The 3D construction will be used to print the ring’s shank directly in gold. The top and bottom flower bed’s parts (pins) will be hand made, stone set, polished and assembled into a masterpiece.
The masterpiece is planned to be hand made by an expert goldsmith in Switzerland and will be used for a charity auction to raise funds and awareness on the global warming.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Ring size 53 (13 EUR size – 6.5 US size)
30 mm x 26 mm x 38 mm
The ring is first rendered with the manual high jewellery gouache technique on a gray colour jewellery gouache paper. The copy of the drawing is provided for the goldsmith. Top, side and perspective views are rendered in size 1:1. Further 3D model is created with RhinoMatrixGold computerized CAD program. This model first is printed in a resin (for making sure that the proportions are correct) and later some parts are directly 3D printed in gold (or wax for casting in gold later). Flowers and pins are hand made separately and then assembled together into one piece.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The hardest part in this particular design process was to deal with my own feelings. I love to design. Design is my passion and my profession. Jewellery design is what I am doing for more then 10 years already. It’s what I love to do and do not imagine doing anything else.
But today, it is not enough to design just beautiful pieces.
The hardest part for me during this difficult period (referring to the post-pandemic war situation in the contest of a global warming) is to transform my inner pain into a strong message.
I am not happy with what is happening around me, I am not OK with the war, I am not OK that the governments do not concentrate their power to invert a process of a global warming. It’s not OK with me!
The first step towards the change is awareness. But awareness without the action is worthless.
The HOPE masterpiece is planned to be used for a charity auction to raise funds on the global warming. I think it will be challenging to produce, to promote and to spread a message of peace, love and hope, but at the same time I have noticed that thanks to technology and information everything is possible.
CHALLENGE: The research is based on humanitarian and environmental crisis which the world is facing nowadays. I feel a huge responsibility as an artist and jewellery designer not only to inspire the world with some beautiful jewellery pieces, but also to communicate the strong messages promoting peace and love towards each human, but mostly important towards the mother nature. The Earth needs our help today more than ever before. Global warming causes dramatic consequences. Causes of death could be linked to increased severity of natural disasters such as wildfires, earthquakes, floods and storms. Not to mention the risk of starvation, air-related illnesses, and poverty. The glaciers are melting, the water level is increasing. Entire islands, cities and continents could be under the water in a close future. With carbon dioxide trapped in the air humans prone to respiratory diseases and deaths. The severe heat and fires devastate vast areas. Our stunning coral reefs die. We are loosing the fascinating creatures and more than 1 million species becoming extinct due to dissolved habitats and ecosystems acidic oceans. And this list is not a complete one.
