| DESIGN NAME: Jme PRIMARY FUNCTION: Office INSPIRATION: Today fast lifestyle keeps people on the move while constantly chasing perfection. This project aimed to achieve the opposite. It drew inspiration from the wabisabi lifestyle that finds beauty in imperfection and simplicity. More of a lifestyle than a trend, wabisabi contains seven aesthetic principles which benefit the environment, health, and lifestyle. This lifestyle office aims to create a space where all these principles are practised. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The concept of this office is based on the Wabisabi design, a style that sees beauty in every imperfection. Its characterised by simplicity, asymmetry, neutral colour palettes, earthy tones, and organic elements. Wabisabi encourages minimalism, so only items of significant meaning stay in the office. This creates a calm and relaxed space free of clutter. The project also included oriental design through artistic wall arts and wallpapers to preserve the Asian culture. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The lifestyle office doubles up as a multi-purpose office. Different sections in the room are designed to work harmoniously. The multi-functional seats and high tables can be used as tea centres or workspaces. The wall cabinets store wine, teapots, and books while avoiding clutter. The seating areas also double up as waiting lounges for visitors. Adequate ambient and accent lighting in the rooms allows users to effectively carry out their tasks, whether arranging flowers or a new wine collection. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Microcement have been fitted with LED lights that direct the focus on the client and prove to them that they are the office most valued feature, as well as setting a mood that evokes creativity and attentive skilled work. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: This Project size is around 2000mm x 1250mm, 250 square meters. TAGS: wabisabi, office, oriental, cozyoffice, lifestyle RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Evidence-based research which involved using both qualitative and quantitative research to form optimal design decisions. Research objectives: This project aimed to create a calm and free lifestyle office space using a wabi-sabi design. The users get to enjoy the space harmoniously without the burden of trying to achieve the perfect room. Wabi-sabi is a design style that creates a luxurious but serene and peaceful atmosphere. Its simplicity, earthiness, and authenticity make it perfect for a lifestyle office as it makes a room feel calm, not overwhelmed. CHALLENGE: The major challenge was the lack of adequate resources online for a wabi-sabi lifestyle office. Most relevant sources dwell on wabi-sabi design as a whole.
