| DESIGN NAME: Zigzag PRIMARY FUNCTION: Chair INSPIRATION: For the improvement of groups of Moscow kindergartens, new and modern furniture is needed, that meets all the requirements (GOSTs, SanPiN, etc.), as well as the needs of users, that is, children and educators. Children grow very quickly, so seating furniture must be able to quickly adjust to the growth of all students. Educators organize the space of the group, paying attention to the importance of saving space. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Zigzag children's chair is a piece of furniture with two sizes that belong to different height groups. Each chair provides the ability to change the height of the seat to the required standards. Both large and small chairs have high strength characteristics. In order to save space in a group, the chairs can be stacked. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: To change the height of the chair seat, you need to remove the plugs from the sidewalls and use a screwdriver, disassembling the part where the seat is attached. Next, you need to rearrange the seat part with the fasteners a level higher or lower and fix the fasteners. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was developed in 2020 in Moscow (Russia), at the same time the first samples were produced. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The chairs are made from top grade plywood with a colorless water-based lacquer finish. These are eco-friendly materials that are safe for the health of children. Finishing parts can be colored (optional). The main presented view is fully adapted for mass production (designed for large batches of products). Studies were made of the behavior of children in kindergarten, their interaction with space and with each other, user scenarios were taken into account, then similar samples of chairs for kindergartens were studied in terms of their functionality and appearance. Thus, it was possible to come to the optimal type of construction, having developed a curved silhouette of the object, pleasant for perception, with the rest of the details. CHALLENGE: The main task and at the same time the complexity was to combine two fundamental functions in one item - this is stackability and changing the height of the seats. These factors completely determine the design and the whole construct of the object. A lot of work has been done on the compatibility in the subject of these factors and external aesthetics.
