| DESIGN NAME: Karakasa PRIMARY FUNCTION: Shelf INSPIRATION: Opening the door is like opening a treasure chest. It is because the treasure chest is for storing things that you do not want anyone to see, hiding them, and keeping them in a safe place. Not everything you put on the shelves is what you want to show. My concept is a shelf that protects the treasure from the surrounding eyes and has the pleasure of opening the treasure box each time it is used. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A unique shelf supported by a single pipe. It is self-supporting without the support of a wall, and its height is attractive because it is easy to use. By attaching the door to the outside of the shelf, you will not feel stress when taking it out. It was named karakasa because its unique one-legged form resembles a Japanese youkai, Kasa-obake. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: You can open and close it by sliding the door to the right. It protects things from light and dust and at the same time protects your privacy. You can enjoy a special feeling only for the user like a treasure chest. The sculptural and modern design will surprise and entertain the viewer. The research was to solve problems such as the mechanism and strength to make one leg stand on its own, the method to attach the door to the outside of the box, the finish of the paint, and the overall balance. CHALLENGE: The challenge was the strength to stabilize the shelves with a single pipe without the support of the wall.
