DESIGN NAME: Circle of Life
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence
INSPIRATION: The design team designed the space according to the users ideal thoughts of living. Since the residence is a newly-constructed building, the owners hoped the space could have plentiful storage spaces and linear decorations. Hence, the team arranged the ratio and configuration of each area while maintaining high functionality and aesthetics. Appropriate linear designs are paired with arc shapes and straight lines to create richness and delicacy, giving users a harmonious and elegant living environment.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: As one enters the interior, arc shapes, which eliminate the intense sense brought by corners, can be seen at the entryway and the dining room ceiling. As for the key figure of the living room sofa area, circular arcs have once again been used to trim angles to create a gradual and balanced visual effect while echoing with the modeled ceiling. Meanwhile, the dining table is also decorated with the same elements to build a solid heart-warming vibe.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: After the construction is completed, the client has given the team positive feedback, especially the sufficient storage spaces. The designers are told that even though various cabinets are set up, they havent affected the overall aesthetic because of the decorations and modeling on the corners. The unexpected surprise of storing functions has allowed the client to place precious collectibles, which further gives the residence character.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in October 2021 in Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Aside from the white colors and wooden grains, the team has also specially applied stone-imitating materials to give a unique touch to the overall. Marble-imitating grains are paved on the main television wall of the public area, while the dining table surface is also decorated with the same material. Since the hallway next to the table connects to the private area, it is decorated with circular arc shapes that echo the ceiling to remove pointed corners and increase safety for the users when passing through.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The residence actual space usage is 18 pings. The open-end public area, which contains the living room, the dining area, and an elevated study, is designed with high transparency and sufficient lightings. Meanwhile, a horizontal push-pull door is set up between the kitchen and the dining room to block smoke and oil during cooking. The door is paired with the screen, which is made of black ironware and glass materials; even when it is closed, users can still see through the overall with excellent visibility conditions.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The team decided to use circular arc elements as the critical feature of the space; they have eliminated the pressure brought by sharp corners and softened the towering beam column of the dining area and the hallway. Since the client longs for a neat and simple living environment and values the amount of storage functions, the team has maximized the spacing effect by making well use of each corner. Meanwhile, the advantages of the lighting and ventilation conditions are retained through the open-end public area and study.
CHALLENGE: Even though not many rearrangements are made to the newly-constructed space, a towering beam column has existed since the beginning. The team wanted to find a way to soften the object and further increase the overall aesthetic. Hence, lines are used to layer the space, while arc shapes are applied to eliminate the sense of pressure brought by the column. Meanwhile, curved elements can also be seen in several areas of the interior; the team hopes that the circular arc shapes can not only be used on the erupting column but also be used to create a clear and continuous spatial theme.
