INSPIRATION:
Gunia Project was inspired by the works in the style of "Viennese Art Nouveau" by the mysterious architect Ignatius Kazymyrovych Ledokhivsky. One of his works, Kozerovsky's house with Atlants, was built from 1910 to 1913. It is a pink five storey mansion with ordinary windows, but an unusual set of sculptures. Three naked atlases of different ages covered with a shield attracts special attention. It is these sculptures that have found their embodiment in the works of the brand.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
GUNIA Project is a Ukrainian brand of exceptional decor items with hidden meanings. One of the products that the brand presents at A Design Award is tempered glass products. The glass sculptures of the heads of Atlant with pronounced faces and lowered gaze are a new creation of the brand. These items are created in the ancient technique of tempered glass processing, which was developed in the XVIII century and is one of the oldest handicrafts in Ukraine.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Tempered glass sculpture is an art form associated with reveal its various facets in a three dimensional image. The perception of the sculptural image is due to a circular survey, changing angles and viewing positions.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in November 2021 in Kyiv, Ukraine and finished in January 2012 in Kyiv, Ukraine, and has not yet been presented in any country in the world.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Fine Arts and Art Installation Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Tempered glass creation requires specific techniques and methods of manual processing of glass in the hot state: blowing, modeling, applying colored layers, threads, crumbs, and corrugation. GUNIA Project searches for forgotten handicraft technologies and restores them through modernizing. Their method of creation allows the brand not only to revive the technology, but also to reconstruct the attitude to glass products in Ukraine, discovering their unique nature and historical affiliation.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The research was based on the observation and analysis the architecture of Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, inspired the founders of GUNIA project, to create a tempered glass sculpture. The aim of the research was the author's strategy in gaining new knowledge about Ukrainian architecture. The designers used a visual research method, iconographic, to learn the history of architecture, a technological method, to better understand the physical and chemical features of tempered glass. Research tools include ethnographic travels, work with museums and archives, and recovery techniques. To create the sculpture, the founders of the brand conducted many experiments to find a balance between their ideas and the real possibilities of artisanal glass. As a result of this project, sculpture of Atlant is suitable for use in design and architectural solutions. GUNIA Project is now at the forefront of cultural diplomacy. Their items became a powerful message to spread the idea of the depth of cultural development of Ukraine.

CHALLENGE:
The most difficult thing was to understand all the nuances of working with glass, its flexibility and what glass processing technology to choose. Our first designs were not embodied precisely because of the subtleties of working with this material. We spent a lot of time experimenting with and trying out the design.
