DESIGN NAME: Resonantor Speakers
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Active Bluetooth
INSPIRATION: The original idea behind the Resonator Speakers came from the American Blues Resonator Guitar. The Resonator Speaker is an industrial design that includes a Resonance Disc connected to a conical down fire subwoofer. The sonic experience is awesome thanks to the conical chassis and an electro-mechanical device called "plate reverb" which eventually evolved into the invention of the DBA Resonance Disc. The principles of our design are material creativity and in essence, aluminum, ceramics, wood, and all types of resonance materials are tested to achieve different timbre and prolonged resonance. The basic choices are aluminum, solid copper, and Kyoto Sahari Orin limited editions.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The overall design offers unchallenged aesthetics thanks to the collaboration with Kyoto Artisans apart from the basic classic black edition. The patent-pending Resonance Disc technology is the marriage of industrial design, acoustic engineering design, and an electromechanical device called Plate Reverb resulting in an instrument-like playback effect. It is now finally available as an active high-end hi-fi speaker.
By combining old and new craftsmanship in the manufacturing process, Resonance Speakers are the ideal accent for living rooms or Studios and as an item that creates a sense of crafted luxury. Hailed as the next Retrofuturist industrial design, our speakers are visually stunning and sonically unobtrusive, and we are convinced that they will appeal to audiophiles and collectors with a deep appreciation of art. We believe that a sophisticated speaker design should bring satisfaction both visually and sonically.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Operation is easy with a simple Bluetooth connection, it also features a subwoofer output and 3.5mm aux input. It can be used in the study room, studio, or living room, and it can be paired for stereo listening.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The Resonantor Speaker project started in 2016 and the overall design had been redesigned and fine-tuned due to various technical mechanical and hardware improvements. Signature Model 240 will be available commercially in June 2022.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research had been done extensively on "Plate Reverb", an electro-mechanical device designed in 1957, for the first reverb delay effect. We also studied various iconic Speaker chassis designs, namely, boxed vs exotic form, and the base materials in manufacturing the DBA Resonance Disc. The Chassis is conical and designed basically like a horn-like structure, each component has its own unique form and specific function. Most of the R&D includes CAD drawings and 3D rendering before 3D prototyping. And also the quality of Anodizing was important in achieving the final result.
CHALLENGE: The main challenges had been meeting the factory's MOQ production, improvements in the PCB for seamless wireless connection, and testing various resonance materials. The hardest part of the design activity was the PCBA design to achieve the optimal sound quality from the conical aluminum chassis.
