Bicycle as Art

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Storage Shelf

INSPIRATION:
We were trying to solve a very common problem when wife doesn't want to storage husbands bicycle at home, because it effects the interior design. So now there is an option to storage a bicycle at home in winter, making it as an art piece and use the regular shelf in summer and spring while using your bike for trainings.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
1. You can storage bicycle using the racks 2. Your bicycle becomes a piece of art on the wall and a part of your interior 3. You can easily remove 2 brackets and use the rack as a regular interior shelve

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
A bicycle is hanged on the wheel rims, and it's frame merges with the line of the shelf. Thus, the shelf can be used as usual, the bike does not touch the wall and one can easily approach and take objects. Moreover, in bad weather, this design will allow you to tidy the wheels up by supporting them after installing the bike on the clips. In this position they are completely accessible for manipulation and do not rotate. When, if needed again, the bicycle can be easily removed. After removing the hooks, the shelf-stand will again turn into a regular shelf with its usual filling, which takes seconds.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The design looks simple but it took 5-6 prototypes to make it properly fabricated. At the beginning we were trying to get it done with aluminum, but it wasn't strong enough. Location: Toronto, Canada

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Metal components are made of steel with powder coated finish. No joints!

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
There are a lot of bicycle racks in the market. But we were trying to create something that can be a part of interior design, not just for sport equipment use only.

CHALLENGE:
Main challenge was to create design with steel sheet that doesn't need any fabrication processes but bending.
