DESIGN NAME: Miss LadyBud
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lamp
INSPIRATION: Exploration of light travelling through material. It resembles a plant bud that is slowly opening and thus letting the light spill between the leaves. There is a plant pattern in-printed on the surface, in form of small holes, an hommage to art of embroidering floral patterns on home textiles. That plant image, when lit-up, becomes alive: wooden casket, present during daytime, when the light is turned off goes to 2nd plane, and a more playful, contrast image of a plant comes to life.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A light sculpture that explores different effects light has on wood when travelling through material. It resembles a plant bud that is slowly opening and thus letting the light spill between the leaves. There is a second layer- a plant pattern in-printed on the surface, in form of small holes, an hommage to art of embroidering floral patterns on home textile through centuries.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The warmth of material- wood- brings cozy atmosphere to the space, and that can mostly be appreciated during the day. At night, when lit-up the plant pattern comes to life- the lamp becomes one big glowing sculpture.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: From 2019 to 2020 in Kranj, Slovenia

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We wanted to create a all-wooden lamp, that would be totally recyclable, without a number of different (or artificial) materials.
Also, we wanted to prove that a wooden lamp can also be delicate, subtle and not limited to round form.
The third challenge was how to create a form, that would be interesting from a point of view of light; wood is a material that doesn't reflect and absorbs the light- thus bigger of a challenge how to create a form, where different intensities of lights are created between various wooden surfaces.
CHALLENGE: The hardest part was to construct a lamp, that would have a dynamic form, yer using solely orthogonal, flat, 2d material. Another challenge was to construct it from solely one material, to keep it as sustainable as possible. And also- how to make a strong product, without making the structure present through the open pattern of its many surfaces.
