| DESIGN NAME: Mutation PRIMARY FUNCTION: Illustration INSPIRATION: Mutation is expressing an idea of the struggle between humans and biotechnologies. The series of works are hideous, showing the a special sense of beauty behind the peculiar noisy and abstract 3D images. The design team hopes that people get spiritual encouragement, ideological enlightenment and even spurs on words and deeds while providing people with artistic enjoyment. This is the desire for balance and development for modern biotechnology industry in this series. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The design concept of Mutation is to rethink the relationship between humans and biotechnology. Also, the research with plants as experimental symbols of visual communications was carried for finding the way to balance the aesthetic, expression and visual elements. Therefore, the design team have created noisy and blurry images to metaphorically mutate cells contaminated by radiation, which creates a peculiar beauty. Finally, this series of works attempts to express the perspective of "mutation" via visual communication methods in illustrations. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This series received a number of positive opinions and were highly acclaimed on many fields. Moreover, numerous people had been touched and they had thought these works will not be forgotten ever. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project was created and completed between July and November 2021 in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator After Effects and Maxon Cinema 4D SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width: 297mm x Height: 420mm x Weight: 200gm TAGS: Mutation, The Contamination of Radiation, The Balance and Development of Biotechnologies Industry RESEARCH ABSTRACT: At some time in the future, silicon-based organisms have developed, which invades primitive carbon-based organisms through radiation. In the biological category, the radiation affects humans in more complex and diverse ways. They first paralyse human cognition and invade from the sensory organs and rewrite original functions. Finally, in this series, noisy and abstract 3D images are used as a metaphorical visual element to metaphorically contaminate mutant cells, thereby creating a special sense of beauty. CHALLENGE: The most significant challenge was to express our perspectives via visual communication methods in illustrations. Therefore, the design team spent a great deal of time studying and finding the way to balance the aesthetic, expression and visual elements at the same time. NAME: Huzhou University PROFILE: Huzhou University is a full-time comprehensive university. Its history dated back to the year of 1916 when the Qiantang Dao(“Dao” is an old administrative unit, almost likes the “county”) set up the NO.3 Teachers’ Training School. It began to carry out higher education program in 1958, and started to enroll undergraduates in 1994. In March 1999, Huzhou University was founded by consolidating three former colleges and schools: Huzhou Normal Junior College, Huzhou Teacher’s School and Huzhou Teacher’s Training School. In May 2000, former Huzhou Medical School was merged into the newly founded university. Huzhou University passed the assessment of undergraduate teaching work organised by the Ministry of Education for evaluation of “good” in November 2005. The university has been entitled as the National Civilized Unit. It is qualified to enroll and cultivate both undergraduates and postgraduates and among the list of pilot universities to implement the national education training programs called “Excellent Doctors” and “Excellent Talents of Agriculture and Forestry”. Huzhou University is one of the key universities in the process of enrollment of regular institutions of higher education in Zhejiang Province. |
