| DESIGN NAME: New Beba Light PRIMARY FUNCTION: Portable Night Lamp INSPIRATION: The concept of New Beba Light is inspired by the insects that during the summer illuminate the darkness with a wonderful glow, in the countryside and not infrequently, in some areas and gardens of the cities. As flying creatures, they suggested the system with rechargeable batteries because allows children safely to carry only the character without cable. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This nightlight is dedicated to children. It is a bright and protective figure which accompanies them in a calm sleep. The light diffuses softly through the high quality transparent material also thanks to an adequate application of led technology. New Beba Light is equipped with a cloud shaped base on which it turns into a small lamp. It can be easily moved with or without the support base on the bedside table, on the pillow, where a playful and reassuring light is desired. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: It can be placed on the shelf and also used as a flashlight. It has a flexible power button on the back of the wings to turn it on and to adjust the intensity of the light. It can also be hung through a thin cord and brought alongside just for the moment of the good night. The smiling expression of face and the luminous wings instill tranquility during the relaxation phase. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The New Beba Light was presented in the Autumn of 2013 in the new aesthetic and functional version with rechargeable batteries. The project started in 2011 in Milano and finished in April 2013 between Milano and Crusinallo, Italy. It was presented at Maison&Objet and Homi fairs in Autumn 2013. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Injection moulding of transparent polycarbonate for the body, the wings and the cloud that have shiny finishing surfaces and vivid colors; soft material for the on/off button with dimmer function located in the back of the body. Led light that never overheats. The internal surface of the body is opaque to diffuse a soft light. The low electric power allows a safe use of the object even for the youngest. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Amount of light 1500 mcd Warm light 3200K (yellow). The production guarantees very long life of the led, integrated part in the lighting object. Internal 12 volt chargeable lithium battery for a prolonged autonomy, from 48 to 100 hours. Mini usb cable. The mini usb port is positioned on the left side of the body. Differentiated collection: Waste of Electric and Electronic Equipment. CE marking. Width 80 mm x Depth 60 mm x Height 130 mm. Packaging made of high strength cardboard. The solution was introducing low voltage power for a playful character. Adapted to new safety regulations, the production started, complies with European standards, according to the original idea of portability. Having a whole luminous figure involves materials and techniques research to avoid the electrical components visibility. As well wings as body diffuse light. Good success of young and adult public. CHALLENGE: Being able to convey calm to children with a short story, a goodnight kiss and a small light source to be turned off slowly to fall asleep together. The firefly with its bioluminescence produces an high energy performance and in addition flies. Like a transitional object, this light accompanies children at the moment of total abandon of control over the surrounding world. Protective, friendly figure, it helps to face the little fears, it is good confidant for the most important steps of the existence.
