DESIGN NAME: Raleigh
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Electric folding bicycle
INSPIRATION: We are inspired by a baby trolley that folds automatically too. The inspiration came to us bt seeing this vehicle. Then we believed: Yes why not fold a foldingbike automatically using the same principles.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This folding bike is folded by push on a botton. It folds nice and easy fully automatically. Without any hinges or mecanical folding mechanisms. It is absolutely the first of its kind that's folds fully automatically. The holistic design also keeps space for integrated light systems and sidelight markers. The motor is integrated together with the crankset as one unit. We are the first in the world to introduce a fully automated foldable bicycle. Their is no chain or belt. The bike is driven by a generator and are therefor fully electric.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The electric bike is lighter than other electric bikes because of the fact that the battery is an external part of the bicycle. This makes the bicycle a hybrid. With the battery in the back pack it is an electric bike. With the battery out of the frame it is a normal conventional folding bike. The first of it's kind. We have researched the position and the potential of the bike by using and collecting insights from users of traditional folding bikes.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: 18 month from first sketch to the finalized product. Croatia
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Vehicle, Mobility and Transportation Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The product is realized in carbon materials in order to keep the weight down to a minimum. The use of carbon could also ensure us to make shapes that was not possible to realize in aluminium.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Fully folding bike. 120 cm x 44 cm x 101 cm 12 Kilo.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We have done research in aerodynamics, weight ratio to stiffness of the frames. This is a totally new method in the electric bicycles industry where those parameters mentioned has not been explored before now with our new folding bicycle product.
CHALLENGE: The hardest challenge was to invent and patent the automatically folding mechanism. That was absolutely the hardest thing to develop. Ot us 18 month to develop just that mechanism.
