INSPIRATION: Major European destination cities are bearing the brunt of overtourism because current tourism only brings economic benefit but little socio-cultural value to the destination cities. Millennial Chinese tourists can help to change the situation because of their abundant financial influence. Tourists have the need and want to learn from locals, and residents also welcome interactions. Current travel related product only allow Millennial Chinese tourists to learn from previous travellers.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This WeChat mini-program provides challenges and incentives to help Millennial Chinese tourists, the most financially influential tourist group in the world, to better prepare before a trip and contribute more to valuable socio-cultural exchange with residents in major European urban tourism destinations.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in October 2019 and finished in April 2020 and it is master's thesis project from College for Creative Studies.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: A significant number of papers and other publications in respect to a variety of issues have been reviewed in the secondary research phase. Online survey, semi-structured interview, and self-immersion were used in the primary research phase. The purpose is to study millennial Chinese tourists' travel habits and motivations as well as to understand the painpoints of the local residents brought by overtourism.
