DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Jiufenshan Noon

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Commercial Space

INSPIRATION:
"There is a picture in my mind of a large corner of rock in the lush greenery." The client's ideal mountain guesthouse is a minimalist gray and white space filled with sunlight. This project is a classic example of an old house renovation. The base was originally an old guesthouse in Jiufen, but through the designers' ingenuity, the interior and exterior are completely renovated, turning the outdated style into a modern design with good lighting.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
To incorporate the surrounding scenery into the design, the designer carried out a complete renovation with the consent of the client. The designer redesigned the partitions, enlarged the windows, heightened the podiums, and widened the staircase entrance. In addition, the designer carefully considered the orientation of the windows, such as the location of the sea, hillside, and sun, and planned meditation corners in each room. Also greatly improved the lighting, ventilation, and humidity of the house.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
1. The cozy reception hall is the point, it allows the guests to interact and communicate with the client and others in a comfortable space. 2. The rooms are designed with an open bathroom and a meditation space located by the window, allowing guests to relax fully and completely.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project finished in February 2021 in Taiwan.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Interior Space and Exhibition Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
This project uses simple materials to interpret the advantages of the guesthouse in the mountains. Exterior: The combination of stone painting, ironwork, and planting walls connects the building to the environment. Interior: Grey walls with solid wood veneer and faux stone tiles create a natural and minimalist space.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
The design area is approximately 155 square meters and includes a reception hall and four rooms with open bathrooms.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The guesthouse was also built at that time. The old and outdated building made the client determined to change the design of the guesthouse to meet the modern trend and to be able to go on for a longer period. The designer has made significant changes in the three aspects of sunlight (lighting), air (ventilation), and water (humidity), so that all guests who come to the guesthouse can experience the beauty of Jiufen Mountain Town.

CHALLENGE:
The project is a 50-year-old house that needs to be completely renewed because the facilities are unserviceable and do not meet modern standards. Modernizing and presenting an innovative design on a limited budget was a challenge, and the designer needed to select elements carefully.
