DESIGN NAME: Mixed Growth Factor
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Implant Package
INSPIRATION: The traditional implant package is not designed to mix with the growth factor. The procedure of mixing growth factor and implant in the clinical setting is complicated and easily exposed to air, which could contaminate the implant during the surgery. Contamination may lead to the surgical procedure being terminated or medical malpractice claims and postoperative complications.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Traditional bone implant packaging is not designed for mixing growth factors. During the current COVID-19 epidemic period, the process of mixing growth factors with the implant in clinical settings is complicated and easily exposed to air, which may result in the risk of contamination of the implant, and it is necessary to shorten the mixing time and simplify the procedure. Therefore, the rapid mixing of growth factors and implant packaging was designed to meet the needs of clinical practice.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: By reducing excessive plastic bottle and box design, the packaging materials are made of recyclable materials and can be recycled. The simple packaging and operation method, after gamma sterilization, can be used by patients with peace of mind. It also achieves environmental protection, energy-saving, and carbon reduction. The easy-to-use design allows surgeons to complete the surgery independently without the assistance of other medical personnel, instantly and simply, reducing the risk of contact during surgery.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in December 2019 in Taiwan and finished in November 2020 in Taiwan. The product has been recognized with several international awards, including the Red Dot Design Award in Germany, the Golden Pin Design Award in Taiwan, and The R&D 100 Awards in USA.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: To accelerate recovery, implant, graft, and growth factors are used clinically to accelerate osseointegration and reduce postoperative discomfort.Due to the impact of the medical environment caused by COVID-19, the surgical procedure must be changed. This design has been patented and certified in several countries as an innovative surgical treatment to reduce the risk and cost of medical procedures, protecting both health care providers and patients, and making a significant contribution to the medical industry worldwide during the epidemic period.
CHALLENGE: This is a packaging for the mixing of the Implant and the Growth Factor. Growth factor and implant are designed to simplify the process of use and changing the concept of health and safety through a brilliant combination of packaging design. The product's manufacturing and application are free from technical related challenges and revolutionizes the traditional product and surgical process. The product has been introduced into the market and is now being understood and accepted by a wider range of users.
