DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Banshou

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Lamp

INSPIRATION:
Banshou represents the brilliance of the setting sun. The beginning of this design is the setting sun that dyes the mountains red all over. Every time I saw it, I felt magnificent and calmed down. The warmth and soft light of the wood of this lamp will spread the warmth of nature in your space.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This lamp gives people peace of mind. When you go to bed, when you are tired of work, or when you want to organize your mind, the gentle light of wood will wrap you around. After turning off the light of the lamp, ornament that show various expressions will appear depending on the surrounding light. The gentle curve gives the viewer the tenderness and softness, enriches the life, and gives a margin.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Magnets are used to connect the parts, making disassembly and maintenance easy. By providing a light path below, the spread of light when lit becomes more fantastic.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The design project began in Kanagawa in July 2020 and was completed in December 2021.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Lighting Products and Fixtures Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
I made a trial and error by bending the veneer like paper to make it look three-dimensional. If you bend the veneer too hard, it will break immediately. Until I settled on the current design, I considered the design with thick paper. Materials used: walnut, cypress, LED 125v

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
75mmx315mmx195mm

TAGS:

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
I made it to explore the possibility of veneer. How thick a veneer is, how sturdy it is, how much light it allows, and how much it can be bent. How much of the or suitable distance veneer and the light source. If it is too dark, it will not be illumination, and if it is too bright, the grain of wood will die. I think that the experience of this work has expanded the possibilities of furniture that uses veneer.

CHALLENGE:
It was difficult to process the veneer and determine how the light was transparent. The veneer did not bend as I expected, and it took me some time to understand the habit. I always worked carefully because if I tried to bend it forcibly, it would break easily. Also, the distance between the light source and the veneer fluctuates depending on how the light is transparent, and the height of the work changes, so I spent a lot of time figuring out the right height.
