PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ebike
INSPIRATION: The inspiration for the Matra electric bike came from the original peloton bicycle race worldr. The aim was to build one of the abolut lightest electric bikes in the world. We have a holistic design profile on the bike. The aim was to hide the electric drive train as much as possible. This is done by having the electric motor and the battery hidden in the downtube of the bike. The colours are inspired by the original Matra car colors.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Matra electric bike is a unique electric bike made by the carproducer Matra . Created from the race DNA of the professionel race peloton and car race track. Composit materials has been used. The method of production is Autoclave carbon in order to make the bike strong and light. The perception of this electric bike is pure race. With this the has created a complete new category in the bicycle industry. The bike is equipped with laser lights for secure bike lane marking as the first race bike in world.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The design is developed based on insights collected from 500 end consumers. The endconsulers asked for a laser lights system to fit their bikes - how important is safety. Safety was rated very high amo,gst the end consumers and the users. We are using the lasers through a breakthrough technology. The lasers are charged by solar cells.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: 12 month. Development done in Paris, France and Zagreb, Croatia. The bike is designed in USA.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Alluminium and Carbon materials are used in order to create this electric bike. We started sketching the bikes and chose the current design out of 50 sketched bikes. After the choise we went into the 3D phase and then finally the prototyping phase if the bike and the laser ligthts
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 175 x 50 x 95 cm The weight is 9,5 Kilo. The frame is made from Autoclave Carbon. This makes the bike one of the strongest and lightest in the world.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We have done research in aerodynamics, weight ratio to stiffness of the frames. This is a totally new method in the electric bicycles industry where those parameters mentioned has not been explored before now with our new Matra product. We have researched the formula 1 production of cars and we have used methods for our production from that industry.
CHALLENGE: The most critical challenge was to get the weight down to a record breaking level. The electric bicycle has a race bike dna and must therefor be light. But having the added weight of a battery and a motor was the most difficult challenge. The way we have solved the challenges is by using untraditional materials for an electric bike such as carbon and kevlar instead of metal and alloy.
