RESEARCH ABSTRACT: After much thought into the concept realization of creating sustainable (and acceptable) leather from waste material, Food Artist Omar Sartawi went into great lengths in order to curate the material. Endless trials, iteratively improved step by step produced a beautiful final sample which then went into stitching stages - many many stages.
In came the architect Amer Abidi with a vision to implement into furniture, the first piece of which being this one The floating Aladdin.
Structural rebar cantilever testing provided a direction of many options, this was the outcome of it all!
It is beautiful to look at, it susainable, it is organic in nature, and it is something we are very proud of!
CHALLENGE: Keeping the leather hydrated and finding ways to make it self-sustainable, while remaining chemical-free & organic
