| DESIGN NAME: Celebrity Mosque PRIMARY FUNCTION: Islamic Education Centre INSPIRATION: The inspiration for this design was found in the seven principles of Islamic Architecture coupled with a passion for timeless design and contemporary adaptations. This innovative and iconic design for an Islamic world concept came from the holy book of Quran building a place for people to gather beyond the traditional concept for prayer only is needed. The inspiration to expand the design to generate other life interests in the facility will see tourists attracted to the region including religious visitors couples wanting to get married in a religious ceremony scholars for large scale functions and general education. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The primary function of the Islamic Centre extends beyond its core traditional religious purposes, providing education, business and social opportunities. There are three core elements that make this project concept unique: innovative design, reinvigorated purpose, adaptability of design. The design of an open mosque will challenge tradition. Islamic architecture traditionally symbolizes the spiritual path to religion which my concept further enhances. The reinvigorated purpose of the facilities boasts opportunities for a diverse audience, a place for business and above all a social place that supports community cohesion and tourism. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This building complex will operate as a business and education Centre accommodating thousands of students. The Centre will provide local employment opportunities not just during construction but for the long run, including services such as leasing of venues for business events etc., or general maintenance and upkeep requirements. The uniqueness of the flow of this facility is one of its key benefits. The Centre is designed to be welcoming and inviting for people of all walks of life. Students and visitors can feel relax praying in an open mosque. Celebrations of weddings will attract world interest. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The construction of the project is forecast to take 2 years to be in function. Inspirited interior design can take much longer and not to important. The adaptability of the design has allowed for consideration of a number of potential locations starting as guide in Istanbul or Dubai. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The concept can be built in two solutions with solid roof for continental climate and a glazed roof structure for a hot climate. Shape of the dome is most stable in case of earthquakes and accordingly designed with combination of monolith and prefabricated concrete structure. The proposed materials to be used range from: concrete structure, framed Al. solar panels, range of tiles, glass, rags... SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: ICOM is designed with a concrete dome with the biggest concrete span in the world up to 160m. top height of dome about 100m, 7 minarets height 160m from the ground, Rotunda building 600m long. Building accommodate services for students tourist, observation pathway and restaurants on height of 40m with length 500m. The Islamic Centre offers educational business and tourism opportunities. Above all, the Islamic Centre is a contemporary take on a traditional mosque as a ground breaking project to generate public interest and enhance perceptions of mosques as institutions into the future. CHALLENGE: From a conceptual perspective the creative challenge for the celebrity mosque center's around its core function of transformation of traditional to contemporary facilities whilst maintaining and respecting its core purpose. From a more technical perspective the challenge in the design was to come up with a solution for the largest open concrete span without supporting column which has successfully been addressed. The goal is to create a globally renowned Islamic monument and place for celebration, education, collaboration and social cohesion.
