| DESIGN NAME: The Brutos PRIMARY FUNCTION: Cupboard INSPIRATION: We live in a world of global sharing that deprives each of us of that corner in which to be able to rest assured and enjoy our "space". Brutos represents the solid form of that reserved space closed within the domestic walls. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The rationality of the interiors and furnishings, even in high-level projects, is a current constant of interior design, but the real trend is break this stereotyped monotony with an iconic, playful and at times eclectic furniture. Thus was born the Brutos series, a collection of colored cabinets divided into 4 different set ups, Minibar, Workstation, Audio Library and Bookshelves, whose steel handles trace stylized features, grouped into 4 eyes, noses and mouths, which represent profiles of faces funny or ugly for a total of 64 combinations. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Brutos are cupboards composed of a container in color-lacquered mdf and a system of steel handles that are inspired by the features and expressions of the face. The shell and the doors of the cupboard have standardized dimensions, while the interior can be equipped with one of four systems / themes: MiniBar, MiniOffice, Turntable Cabinet, Bookshelves. The handles, in a collection of 4 noses, 4, mouths and 4 eyes, decorate the cabinet offering the possibility to compose 64 different profiles. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: cnc to work the mdf of the structure and water cut for the shape of the handles SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: W 900 mm, D 500 mm, H 1500mm TAGS: cupboard, minibar, desk, smartworking, audio library, bookcase, steel, face RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Evaluating the market offer, it was noted that the customization of finishes and accessories is often limited to fixed furnishings only. It was therefore decided to design a personal container, with standard dimensions, colored, dedicated to specific functions, easy to produce and simple to customize in a creative way. A container with character that represents the treasure chest of one's interests and passions. CHALLENGE: The project stems from an in-depth reflection on the concept of "ugly". often, it is defined as ugly that which is in reality simply unusual, different and therefore flashy. The Brutos are an example of this. The research was mainly focused on the reduction of somatic features to simple games of lines and hatches to be applied to the uniform surface of the container used as a drawing sheet. NAME: d-Lab studio PROFILE: d-Lab studio is a design studio based in Taranto (Italy), founded by Giuliano Ricciardi, senior designer. It was born as a container of ideas and professionalism, a place where designing means believing in one's own ideas, being open to confrontation, having an open mind, thinking outside the box, hazard going beyond everything that is approved. Only with this openness to the outside is it possible to create a system able to offer a complete range of services ranging from the concept to the creation of the product.
