PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Engagement Ring

INSPIRATION:
We wanted to show how two ends of the same ring can work together and hold a diamond securely. The setting of the Diamond is made by tiny golden wires reducing their extent slowly. The wires literally grow out of the solid ring becoming more and more filigree and at the side they intertwine with the golden wire coming from the other side.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
An engagement ring shall symbolise the deep affection a man feels about the woman he wants to marry. In this ring the Diamond is held by delicate goldwire cramps. In a sense even the tiniest detail of this ring reflects the close alliance the engagement stands for. The rings shape allows to wear it together with a wedding ring on the same finger.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
An engagement is a traditional ceremony and an engagement ring has to have a classic design. The diamond is a precious stone, so the ring and the setting of the stone shall be save and durable. All these facts make it complicated to make a real good and traditional design better. Yet by interltwining the wires we made a love-connection visible.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
Created in Spring 2020 in BrittasSchmiede near Frankfurt/Main Germany.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The ring is made from 750 white gold with a Diamond 0,45ct. the Form is made by 3D technology, so that the ring can be easily altered in ring size or the size of the diamond. The alloy that is cast can be, as in the sample, white gold, or yellow, red or rose gold or platinum.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
Ring: Diameter app. 20 mm x 2 mm Diamond 0,45 ct TW vsi plus

TAGS:
ring, engagement, wedding, engagement ring

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
This diamond ring is a classic engagement ring. But the design has one special detail: the intertwined wires that set the Diamond. The classic stone setting has straight wires that hold the Diamond in an angle of 60 degree. Looking from above at the stone you find no difference. But looking closely from a sideview, you see the amelioration: Both sides of the ring are working interlaced together to hold the diamond as both partners should work together to hold the love they feel.

CHALLENGE:
By intertwining the wires we altered the angle in which the wires meet the diamond. But we had to make sure, that the wires hold the diamond securely. We had to play with the angle and the bend of the wires to make sure, the diamond is set safely.
