| DESIGN NAME: Dragon Jar PRIMARY FUNCTION: Baijiu Packaging INSPIRATION: The Hat-Covered Jar is a kind of porcelain jar popular during the Ming and Qing dynasties, which is featured by round and powerful style, just like ancient soldiers who extended shoulders, lifted abdomen, lengthened neck and stood at attention. The bottle is straight up and shows magnificence; and the dragon head on the top of the cap is inspired by the zodiac animal head in the Old Summer Palace. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: With the target market of high-end great jar strong liquor collection, Chinese Zodiac Series enjoys high-quality liquor, which conforms to the high standard of maotai flavor Chinese Baijiu. Inspired by the zodiac animal heads in the Old Summer Palace, the dragon jar bottle has hand-carved and gilded dragon head. Each set has an individual number for limited sale, which has great potential in value appreciation. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Baijiu will undergo further fermentation and evaporation in the process of storage, which will cause liquor diminishing. In order to improve the pureness and taste, a large container is needed to hold as much liquor as possible so as to avoid too less liquor in the container after many years. In addition, the dragon head represents successful official career and prosperity in traditional Chinese culture, which will be used as the mascot for luck and treasure. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was started in Shanghai in December 2019 and will be finished in February 2021 and put on sale in Shanghai in the same month. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The porcelain dragon jar is hand-made under several processes, which follows the shape of Hat-covered Jar common to be seen during the late years under the reign of emperor Kangxi. The designer chose bright yellow as the main color, which symbolized the status of ancient imperial family. Furthermore, the relief on the bottle is made by means of 24k gold decal technique and hand carving. And the dragon head is also hand-carved and gilded. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 250mm x Depth 250mm x Height 380mm TAGS: Baijiu, Hat-Covered Jar, dragon jar, 24k gold, Chinese Zodiac Series RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Collection-oriented Baijiu emphasizes more on monumental meaning than the value of drinking. Hence, it has much higher requirements on appearance and texture than common products sold on the market. The appearance design of zodiac series integrates cultural elements in both ancient and modern China, which not only guarantees elegance, but also shows profound cultural connotation and represents the cultural heritage of Chinese culture. CHALLENGE: The porcelain jar of inheriting for 16 generations - Chinese zodiac series is hand-made under several processes. The firing process is quite strict.
