DESIGN NAME: Xingjiang Bay
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sales Center
INSPIRATION: Inspired by the theme of Life on the Waterfront and the curved structure of Zaha Hadid Architecture, the building mainly aims to cover and resolve the excessive disharmony of the load-bearing column via the element of water created by the structural curves, and the extension of the curves are also used to guide the sight of visitor.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This work is the real estate sales center of SIPG Xingjiang Bay in Shanghai with Life on the Waterfront as the theme, whose interior design is permeated with Zaha Hadid Style Flow Curves, connecting and echoing the hard furnishings such as the roof, columns and floors visually by linking extensive curves in three dimensions, thereby deftly solving the limited functional layout due to the original structure of building.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: With the Center as the visual focal point, the designer used the extension of the curves and centrality of the arc to direct the visual focus of the two-floor space all the way to the reception desk and the sand table respectively. Such a focused view not only makes the most of the functionality of these two settings, but also assists the curved lines on the column to link and echo the decoration at the top and curves on the ground of both floors, so that the integrity of the work is enhanced.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The design of this work started in December 2018, was completed in October 2019 and officially opened to the public from August 2020.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The designer of this work was inspired by the theme of Life on the Waterfront and then by Zaha Hadid concept of Curved Architecture. The curved structure, when applied to interior design, boasts the greatest advantage of creating Dynamism to guide the view, enrich spatial levels and reduce the visual oppressiveness of the square space. The curved structure of this work also serves to neutralize the interior elements and render the interior structure more rational.
CHALLENGE: In the original structure of this architecture, there was a non-removable load-bearing column in the center, making it hard to balance the aesthetics and functionality. Inspired by Zaha Hadid Curved architecture and determining the design concept, the designer linked the column to the various elements of the space to fit into the reception desk and the sand table, which are the visual center of the two floors, thus resolving the difficulty in combining aesthetics and functionality.
