DESIGN NAME: Immediate Health Bus
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Vaccination Platform
INSPIRATION: O-SI, the immediate health bus, was developed by designers and doctors focused on creating a modular platform to provide healthcare services to the population, in a modern, biologically safe and agile way.
Thus, O-SI was designed to be a state of the art mobile clinic, capable of moving to where people in need of medical support are, with its internal space prepared to carry out diagnosis, testing and vaccination.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: O-SI, the immediate health bus platform is a unique resource for activelly combating any sanitary crisis; a state of the art primary healthcare equipment, modular and mobile, of fast implementation and long range; the project foresees the re-use of up to 4.800 urban vehicles recently decommissioned from Brazil's bus fleet, and the adaptation of its internal spaces for clinical use with focus on biosecurity and clinical parametrization alongside testing and vaccination.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: When the current covid-19 sanitary crisis is over, the O-SI platform will be scaled-up and multiplied, and will function at the forefront of basic health units, operating off-grid when necessary, in a technological and punctual way with pre-scheduling and screening by mobile app. By this way reducing costs for the health system and democratizing universal access to health and quality care; no queues and no surprises.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Project started in april 2020 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The first O-SI unit has been completed and started operations in january 2021; the next O-SI units are currently under production.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: O-SI, the immediate health bus platform is based on the re-use of urban vehicles recently decommissioned from Brazil's bus fleet, and the adaptation of its internal spaces for clinical use, allowing a bigger flexibility and lower operational costs. It's first unit, O-SI covid is already operational.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The O-SI, immediate health bus, design is based on a standard 13.25 meter urban bus. 32m2 of intervention area with 20.0m2 available for patient care and clinical use; 10.0m2 of technical area and lab.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We identified that one of the indirect effects resulting from the current pandemic is the decrease in the population use of hospitals (public and private), and other health system equipments, due to fear contagion by covid-19, which may result in numerous health issues for residents, not directly related to the virus. Designed in order to follow the spatial needs of medical modernization, the O-SI, immediate health bus, will offer a safe option for testing and vaccination during and after the covid-19 sanitary crisis.
CHALLENGE: Design an accessible and low-cost option for Brazilian healthcare system.
