| DESIGN NAME: Slide PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ring INSPIRATION: The ring is inspired by a geometric shape; triangle. It is also the shape of the fourth letter of the Greek alphabet Delta which is used to represent the d sound in Ancient and Modern Greek. In mathematics, Delta can be used as symbol to represent change in a variable. The triangle’s own symbolism as a geometric figure, by itself, already presents a wealth of meanings. In an esoteric interpretation, with its three sides joined, the triangle represents both the beginning, middle and end, as well as body, mind and spirit. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Ring with hidden diamond part move over the surface while maintaining smooth continuous contact in a stem which is slidable on a rigid supporting base. Pass smoothly and quietly. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Unique geometric pair of sliding ring are pyramid triangle forms when closed yet when moves smoothly along a surface and opens, a cantilevered which a rigid structural element extends horizontally and is supported at only one end, hidden diamonds raises from the sides. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in September 2018 in Istanbul and finished in December 2020 in Istanbul - Turkey. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The ring is finely handcrafted with genuine 925 sterling silver in high polished finish with black glossy titanium and diamonds. This ring is consists of two elements connected in such a manner that one is constrained to have a sliding motion relative to another. The relative motion between them is completely or successfully constrained. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Ring Diameter 40mm Color: High Polished Silver, Diamond TAGS: Ring, Slide, Silver, Movable, Dual-Function RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research for the project started on the idea of a triangle shape and its relationship of geometry and Greek Lettets. Fourth letter of the Greek Alphabet, which corresponds to us to the letter D, the Delta, resembles an equilateral triangle. Delta means change or the change in movement in mathematics. Even for the ancient Greeks, the Delta symbol represents the elements of nature: Water, Earth, Fire and Air, indicating the totality of the universe. We can thus say that the meaning of Delta is the sum of all things. It can also represent the end of a journey, the completion of a mission. CHALLENGE: Some of the challenges I faced included how to slide pyramid triangle parts and how the user would use it. I had a hard time creating stability in the ring's movements with a reasonable force applied and making sure the the ring would move not too fast or slow, in a balanced way.
