| DESIGN NAME: Switch PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ring INSPIRATION: As its name suggests, this ring design was inspired by a rocker switch which is an on and off switch that rocks when pressed, which means one side of the switch is raised while the other side is depressed much like a rocking horse rocks back and forth. Each phase of the plate lets the diamond remain invisible when you don’t need it but when you do, it becomes a sculptural presence in the finger. Switch ring is behaving much like the to be concealed the diamond or to be found by one or more seekers. Morphing from one simple shape to the next. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project explores the idea of switch as a design method to make it a playful jewellery concept, by integrating creativity in production process. The ring works as a switch button which may be directly manipulated by the user. Positioning of each phase of the internal plate transform the ring into a new design, therefore a new ring. Each set of contacts can be in one of two states, either closed, hide the hidden diamond, or open, show the treasure. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The silver ring has two parts where the external one has rigid body with a fixed position and the internal one is movable, capable of being pressed. The user can toggles between one of two states, closed or open by pressing the internal silver plate with their fingers. The hidden screws at the two opposite sides of the fixed external plate is connected to the internal plate which ables the user to press. The internal plate has two moves, downward or upward. Each phase of the plate gives the diamond remain invisible when you don’t need it but when you do, it becomes a sculptural presence in the finger. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in December 2019 in Istanbul and finished in December 2020 in Istanbul, Turkey. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The ring is finely handcrafted with genuine 925 sterling silver in high polished finish. A main body and the plate where the outer one is with a fixed position and the inner one is movable, pressable which are connected to each other with a hidden screw at the two opposite sides of the fixed body. CHALLENGE: The most challenging thing for Switch ring is thinking creatively and boldly and challenging the existing ring design innovations, shapes, materials and, or functions of the leading ring design creators and producers by designing something truly unique.
