DESIGN NAME: Phibonna
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Furniture
INSPIRATION: The design inspiration obtained from a desire for nature during the pandemic process. We searched codes from nature and Phi code is the answer of our question. Fibonacci spirals occur widely in nature. Phi code identifies our design in geometrical golden ratio proportions. Golden ratio creates definitive characteristics of our design as well as aesthetic expression. Phi code is defined as growth behaviour in nature. When more than one unit comes together,it begins to grow by creating new spaces.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Phibonna is a multi-purpose minimalist furniture which can be used in indoor public spaces. Considerable attention is dedicated to its function as well as its aesthetic value. The main emphasis of the design is given particularly on the appropriate proportions of the Phi code captured from the nature. The dynamic lines of Phi create sub-space in (public) space whether it is used individually or in groups. It is a convenient furniture due to no supplementary elements are required. Moreover, UV ray tubes are utilized to clean the close environs during pandemic process.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The construction of Phibonna is simple and convenient because no supplementary elements are required. Phibonna is a freestanding furniture, whereas it can also be connected by a power source to power the UV Rays at nights or USB charger during the day. UV rays are turned on at night; they destroy the viruses around them. It acts like a sculptural night lamp due to the UV rays, which gives soft light to the place while cleaning the surface and close environment. Moreover, four colour options of the bench-blue, orange, green and grey- are offered which can be obtained by changing the 120 slices of plate on the top.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in November 2019 and finished in September 2020 in Ankara.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Phibonna basically consists of 4 Corian carrier parts in L shape and 3 green UV tubes that radiate UV rays to kill viruses. There are 120 pieces of polyethylene reinforced slices. These 120 slices plate, which have 6 mm. thickness, cross into Corian basic carrier L parts by using wood plug technique.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Nowadays, the effect of finding a concept form nature has become more and more evident. We tried to take this approach into consideration in terms of design and sustainability of Phibonna. Thus, we were able to achieve ease of production and simple but sophisticated design. It is truly different from what already exists because the design itself questions traditional sitting element in indoor public places.
CHALLENGE: We tried to break the traditional thoughts of sitting furniture with its function and aesthetic quality. Searching a way to maintain the concept of Phi code from nature to the basics of our design as well as integrating the UV ray tubes correctly to support Phibonna's design line is one of the most challenging parts. In addition, no supplementary elements are used combining the top and lower sides of Phibonna, thus finding the construction technique took a serious time.
