PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Subdivided Flats

INSPIRATION:
Nowadays, more than 280,000 people living in subdivided flats in Hong Kong. The average per capita floor area is 5.7 square metres. Living in such poor conditions may lower their self-esteem and tend to become less sociable and introverted. People conflict and compete for space as the overcrowded area. The project is use the multi-functional furniture to make more room for living, studying and sleeping. Everyone deserves to be respected and life with dignity.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The project is a typical subdivided flats in Hong Kong. 2 m wide by 5 m length, four peoples are living in only ten square meter, including kitchen and bathroom. The project is to relocate the function of the living, sleeping and dining area. Desk and dining table are only used 2 to 3 hours a day, changed to use the rotatable desk and folding dining table. Typical bunk bed are only used 7 to 8 hours a day, changed to use the folding bunk bed, can be free more room for living.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Desk and dining table are only used 2 to 3 hours a day, changed to use the rotatable desk and folding dining table, can be free more room for living. Typical bunk bed are only used 7 to 8 hours a day, changed to use the folding bunk bed, can be free more room for living. Refrigerator and washing machine are relocated into a cabinet.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
To make multi-functional furniture for the people living in subdivided flats in Hong Kong.

A typical subdivided flats, two meters wide by five meters length, only ten square meter, including kitchen and bathroom. The project is to relocate the function of the living, sleeping and dining area. Desk and dining table are only used 2 to 3 hours a day, changed to use the rotatable desk and folding dining table. Typical bunk bed are only used 7 to 8 hours a day, changed to use the folding bunk bed, can be free more room for living.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The insufficient supply of housing is one of the important forces leading to subdivided units. According to the Grassroots Housing Rental Price Research Report 2011, released by the Society for Communication Organisation, the Hong Kong government's failure to accurately forecast future housing demand is the leading cause of the shortage.

CHALLENGE:
The hardest part of the project was a typical subdivided flats, 2 m wide by 5 m length, four peoples are living in only ten square meter, including kitchen and bathroom.
