Sanitiser Dispenser
INSPIRATION:
We tend to forget our sanitizers all the time especially small children, primarily because is an extra item to carry. But we can’t afford to forget our sanitizers at times like these. It is our best defence against the Corona virus.
I wanted to design a sanitizer which also served the part of an accessory, because by making it an accessory, it will stay with you all the time. I also wanted it to fit into many different areas, which was easily executed with the help of a split ring.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
SQUEEZY is a sanitizer dispenser made especially for small children, but can also be used by adults. It is made with medical grade silicon, making it both safe for small children and eco-friendly. It comes with an adjustable spilt ring so that it can be attached to keys, bags, necklaces, belt hoops etc.. Unlike other sanitizers, SQEEZY is designed to be an accessory and in such way that it is very appealing to children. The soft form and flexible silicon makes it really comfortable to hold. And by designing it to also act as an accessory solves the problem of being 'detached' from your sanitizer. By hooking it onto your bag, necklace or your belt hoops, it is always outside and with in your reach. The idea was to make children WANT to keep their sanitizer with them all the time, without parents having to remind them everytime, by making the whole experience of carrying it and using it more enjoyable.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The working of the product is very simple. To dispense the product, one just has to squeeze it and the sanitizer flow out through the hole at the bottom of the product. Once empty, one can refill it by pulling out the cap at the bottom of Squeezy and then put the cap back on.It can be attached to you bags, belt hoops, necklaces, keys etc. with the help of the split ring.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
It was a 1 month project (August), during the lockdown in India.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Medical-Grade Silicone is the material used to make this product. Silicone is one of the most versatile material, used in many different types of industries. It widely used in the medicinal industry for various uses. Medical- Grade Silicone is tested and approved by the FDA for biocompatibility – so it's designed to be worn safely even inside the body for long periods of time. It is chemically inactive at normal temperatures and is bio-degradable.
The body of the product can be made by blow moulding and the cap of the opening at the bottom can be made by Injection moulding.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Discussions and interviews were conducted with children and their family members. The parents' main concern was that if their children were careful enough to sanitise their hands regularly. They were also concerned about their children forgetting their sanitizer and masks when they step out of their homes, now that schools and other public places are slowly opening.
Through research I found that children don't find enough motivation to sanitise their hands or to carry it with them all the time. Most of the time children would forget their sanitizer. Even when they take it with them, they keep it inside their bags and forgets about sanitizer and also to sanitize.

CHALLENGE:
The biggest hurdle was to design it in a way that children always has their sanitizer with them and to make them want to keep it with them without parents having to remind them each time.
