Balcony Sculpture

INSPIRATION:
Zora is inspired by the idea of Blending into the sky. The word derives from the word : “Dawn”. This concept is to allow light to refract in this medium to create this visual effect of blending into the surrounding.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The chair is designed in the physical distance context and only enables users to see this dawn reflection when the chairs are placed far away from each other. This visual effect provides the emotional connection at a distance and it is suitable in the post COVID world. It gives the users a visual effect that blends with the sky. The construction takes inspiration from the minimalistic Bauhaus approach- uses a bare stainless steel tube to bear the weight. Acrylic was stacked together to allow the light to refract through the material.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The seater position is designed with a reclining position, thus it angles outwards to the sky, creating a visual image of being one with the sky.

2 months lock-down isolation

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
In a post COVID world, humans wanted a new normal, and resume back to their daily lifestyle. The research went on to question the new normal. We discovered that the usage of the balcony becomes an important space during a lockdown. Hence, i decided to use a chair as a design medium to connect with the landscape. This will allow one to have a moment of escapism. Zora is a sculpture piece that reminds us of our relationship with nature.

CHALLENGE:
In the post COVID world ,there are designs like inflatable balloons trying to remind people to keep their social distance. These objects are physical objects large enough to remind the users to keep their social distance. What if the Refraction of the color hues becomes a reminder to the users to keep their physical distancing. What if the Refraction of the color hues becomes a reminder to the users to keep their physical distancing. It acts as a Visual reminder to the user, once they can no longer see the refraction and color effect, they know that the distancing is not appropriate.
