PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Antivirus Model

INSPIRATION:
This design was inspired by the space of architecture which is always made of solid and void spaces. The former usually stands for the body or the components. The latter is the space around the solid part. Both forms of space exist in contrast representations and cannot exist without each other. Consequently this is a solid and void representation of the virus and antivirus. COVID 19 is the virus and the Divoc is the antivirus.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Divoc is the name spelled backward from COVID 19. It is a model of antivirus that has all the synapse replaced by holes on surface. The void part of model bonds the solid synapse of virus to restrict its activity. No just the name stands for a reversed meaning of the virus. The model is a reversed version of the solid virus by the structure inside and on external surface.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
There are two versions made for the antivirus. The pair of models stands for the concave and convex states of the dynamics. They are to be placed side by side as two interaction states upon the contact of the virus.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
This project started from scratch since 2010 in Taipei, Taiwan. A different version was made in 2018.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
A virus is a parametric 3D model that transforms and adapts constantly. The parametric character makes it one of the most influential threads to human life. This design was one of the three models made by parametric configuration of elements. It is also the most complicated one by its appearance. But the least complicated one implies that every type of complexity may share certain degree of composition in similarity. The two versions of the model represent slightly difference in convex and concave level. It looks alike they are alive. The final model and delicate part of members were made of nylon using a selected-laser-sintering 3D printer. Hand-painted color was applied.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
The design is a nylon model with metallic color painted by hand. Overall size is 28 cm*19 cm*10 cm. Two versions were made.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The morphology plays an important role in fighting virus from first contact. This design presents a conceptual model to eliminate the threat of virus by the reversed structure. The base model was relatively simple. A complicated configuration may originate from a relative simple form of threat and an intricate infection mechanism. Inside the antivirus is the complicated mechanism to restrain the activity of the virus. The shape became complicated by replacing the original component with a more intricate configuration.

CHALLENGE:
The most challenging part of this design is the conceptual representation of the virus structure. It stands for a counter mechanism that is so subtle and so obvious as well. The counter configuration on the surface leads to the interaction upon the first contact and more unpredictable interaction inside.
