INSPIRATION:
COVID-19 can spread through coughing, sneezing and close contact. Researches show that physical distance of six feet recommended by CDC and using face shields simultaneously, reduce inhaled virus by 92%. When physical distancing is combined with good personal hygiene, the spread of a pandemic through the community can be slowed. This helps protect the most vulnerable members of the community and reduces the impact of the pandemic on essential, life-saving health services.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Sallet can reduce the potential for infection by preventing the wearer from touching their face. Besides, face shields appear to significantly reduce the amount of inhalation exposure to droplet-spread respiratory virus. Laser of Sallet safety light emits three precise lines, forming a virtual space to remind users of social distancing in public places. Combination of protection equipment like face shields and social distancing can cause maximum protection of people in public spaces.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Sallet is a light face shield which can be reused indefinitely. It is comfortable to wear, has the adjustable headband. Head padding is designed to have a comfortable fit to stop slipping, and prevent it being too tight. Parts of Sallet can be detached easily and cleaned with soap and water, or common household disinfectants completely. Sallet is able to be connected to smartphones making it possible for users to change the laser lines to their desired text. Laser can be turned on or off using the power button located on the forehead.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in March 2020 in Tehran and finished in May 2020 in Tehran.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The durable, clear, and easy-to-clean plastic shield provides ample coverage from both top to bottom and side to side. Because it is made from PETG (polyethylene terephthalate glycol) plastic, it is much harder to break than ordinary plastic. Forehead part is made of PC plastic and head padding is made of polyethylene (PE) foam.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
After reviewing the researches about efficacy of face shields against spreading viruses and the benefits of social distancing, we found out that using face shields can have a significant impact on preventing infection. As a result, Sallet is designed to offer these 2 features to protect users in public spaces.
CHALLENGE:
The main challenge was to provide maximum protection for users in public environment during pandemic time. Finding a solution for keeping social distancing and combine it with protective equipments like face shields which are reusable and can be disinfected.
