| DESIGN NAME: Monster Studio Ceramic Decoration PRIMARY FUNCTION: Interior decoration object INSPIRATION: Emotions are little monsters live in our mind and we live in our home. This project is inspired by this idea to create a decoration object to express emotions.Taking inspiration from major cartoon icons, the eyes and feet are used as the main characteristic of each little monster. Four colors were carefully selected to represent different emotions after researches. Seaweed green present vitality; eggshell white is calmness; rock brown is sureness; violet blue is creativity. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Monster Studio is a collection of fine ceramic interior decoration object including four individual little monsters. This project is aimed to express emotions through decoration objects with highly skilled ceramic crafts.Color preset fine porcelain clay is used in this case to achieve a low color contrast and much more even color through the whole object than the traditional process. The even and low contrast color fit the purpose to express emotions which we believe is vague and misty. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: - PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: he project started in February 2020 in Chengdu city, China and finished prototype in May 2020 in Jingdezhen, China. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: High-temperature ceramic (1280 centigrade degree in the kiln) with color preset porcelain clay. Products are without glaze layer, together with extra hand polishing to ensure an even matt surface finishing. Limited 300 sets were planed to produce and every batch includes 50 units due to the nature of craftsmanship. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Monster Studio has four ceramic little monsters. Green 116mm x 35mm x 116mm; White 160mm x 35mm x 113mm; Brown 118mm x 35mm x 147mm; Blue 248mm x 35mm x 110mm. TAGS: - RESEARCH ABSTRACT: - CHALLENGE: It should be pointed out that the greenware, ceramic before fired, is made with color preset porcelain clay which is a special technique to coloring ceramics. Different from the traditional process which coloring the ceramic under the glaze layer or over it, color preset porcelain clay mix pigment with clay to achieve specific color throughout the whole ceramic inside out.
