DESIGN NAME: All Blue
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence
INSPIRATION: The designers drew inspiration from the clients love for fish farming and longing for the ocean, and have integrated the conception of the ocean throughout the residence and used exclusive innovative techniques to create a deep-sea fish tank and use as the core of the space, with the blue, gray, and black tones. By installing the large-scale glass curtain, they shape the characteristics of the interior and exterior: like how land and sea meet, intertwined with light and dark.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The fish tank for tropical fish and coral acts as a focal point, the surface of which is made of ultra-clear glass and is transparent with no blind angles on three sides. The structure of the tank is built from the bottom up with layers of filter cells and has independent voltage, external cooling device, and an innovative siphon drainage design, creating a more suitable environment for fish. To take into account the home safety and the durability of the building materials, acid and alkali resistant cords and caulking silicone are used.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The children room is seen as a paradise of growth, in addition to creating a castle-like design with wood, the team also tried to improve functions such as hiding storage in the stairs, creating a second floor as wardrobe and dressing space for the children, turning the space under the slide into a kids-only secret base, and installing a bookcase for them to enjoy reading, etc., with safety first. The proportion of the upper and lower structures, the angle balance, and the stability of the slide are carefully studied when heavy-weight materials were utilized.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in February 2019 in Qianzhen District, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Wood grain tiles, melamine boards, blue paint, stucco, steel ware, shelf boards, lacquered glass, system cabinets, ultra-clear glass, wooden cabinets, track lighting, LED lights. The original materials and furnishings integrate the land and the ocean. With the harmonization of proportions and gradual progressing of lines, a spatial layering is created. The floor is laid out with dark or light wood grain tiles, creating spatial facade with veneered melamine boards and stucco.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: In order to create a comfortable scale in a long and narrow space and in response to the defect of the beam passing through the vertical axis of the public hall area, the designers took advantage of the structure and enveloped beam to create a seabed-like height drop on the ceiling, while air-conditioning equipment and pipelines are hidden inside, uniquely adding points of interest to the overall space. Utilizing clever decoration of light fixtures and natural lighting, the designers released visual pressure and achieved an open and comfortable balance.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The project echoes the city ocean style and the faith of the All Blue. The quiet space with gray, blue and its compatablity with materials integrate the fish tank and greenery showing vitality. With situational narrative techniques, they started a beautiful dialogue between the residence and nature. The public area satisfies inhabitants in reading and gathering. The open space makes a smooth circulation and have large bookshelves and multi-seat sofas. The private domain combine clients expectations for children and growth trajectory.
CHALLENGE: Blue is not a common color used in general living spaces. To naturally blend the color into multiple areas without it being obtrusive and to cleverly resonate it with the fish tank was a major challenge in this project. From the beginning of designing, the designers tried to incorporate various blues and adjusted the proportion of colors again and again through the design process. Within a limited period of time, a decisive decision was made to achieve an innovative color aesthetic, and the details reflect the ideal spatial appearance.
