INSPIRATION:
As COVID-19 is raging around the world, many sanitary problems that are usually overlooked have also surfaced. At present, the disinfection method of public handrails is still manually cleaned by cleaning staff, which cannot reach the required disinfection frequency and is not convenient to operate. How to reduce the contact spread caused by the public handrail is the pain point solved by this work. There is currently no such product on the market.The birth of this product fills this loophole.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Non-contact handrail disinfection ring is a disinfection device that solves the problem that public handrails become the main place for indirect transmission of viruses through non-contact automatic disinfection. The work uses a non-contact automatic cleaning design, does not require any physical contact during work, and can autonomously pass through the handrail connection and the curved part of the handrail, without using multiple devices or manual operations.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
This product is disinfected by means of ultraviolet radiation disinfection. The cross-section of the product is U-shaped, and a blocking rod is provided at the top of each section of the disinfection ring. During the disinfection work, the middle section will rotate 180° to achieve the fully wrapped state, and the disinfection ring is prevented from falling off during the work by the blocking rod and the fully wrapped clamp on the armrest.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in March 2020 in Shenyang and finished in June 2020 in Shenyang.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The product uses engineering plastic as the main material, and the surface is polished and decorated with a red line corresponding to the red stopper. The product consists of three independent disinfection rings, each with five ultraviolet disinfection lamps.The product does not need to use special processing technology in mass production application, which provides greater feasibility for the market.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
This research is an applied research. The purpose is to solve the problem that the frequency of disinfection of public handrails during the epidemic cannot meet the needs of frequency of use. We determined the basic plan through a lot of discussion, hand-painting and software modeling, and then continuously denied and improved. Participants included all members of the team. Finally, we completed the research goal and designed this product. The design of this product can play a significant role in preventing the spread of major infectious diseases in the future.

CHALLENGE:
How to make the disinfection ring pass the connecting part and the bending part of the armrest autonomously.

PROFILE:
Liaoning University of petrochemical Technology is located in Fushun, overlooking the scenic banks of the Hunhe River. It enjoys a beautiful campus environment. LSHU was originally founded in Dalian in 1950 as the first petroleum school of New China. In 1953 the school was relocated to Fushun and in 1958 it was upgraded to Fushun Petroleum Institute. In February 2000 its leadership was transferred to the People’s Government of Liaoning Province, in light of the management system of “simultaneous construction by central and local governments, with the local government playing a more prominent role”. In October of the same year, Fushun Coal Industry School was incorporated into Fushun Petroleum Institute; in February 2002, with the approval of the Ministry of Education (MOE), Fushun Petroleum Institute was renamed as Liaoning Shihua.
