DESIGN NAME: UV-bin
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Smart trash
INSPIRATION: The “UV-bin” is a smart waste bin based on automatic UV radiation. This bucket for disposable masks and gloves is available during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic. After detecting the entry of the mask and gloves into the bucket using motion sensors, the UV lamps are activated and by irradiating the surface of the mask and gloves, it will eliminate the possible coronavirus.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Due to the unsafe release of masks and gloves used in the city, UV-bin can be used in urban public centers to eradicate garbage infection during the epidemic. Its function is to absorb light by the photovoltaic system and store energy in order to use UV lamps. And by using a motion sensor, by detecting the entry of an object into the body, the UV lamps will be activated and will radiate for 10 seconds, thus disinfecting and eliminating the coronavirus.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Every day, large quantities of masks and gloves are left unsafe in the city and on the streets after being used by humans. This wrong release can accelerate the spread of coronavirus in the city. Aware of this dangerous release, UV-bin was designed to separate masks and gloves that are in direct contact with the contaminated environment. After entering the microbial waste, these special bins start disinfecting the waste with the UV system, reducing the risk of contamination and spread of the virus in the air and the environment, and preparing them for the recycling stage.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: It started in Tehran, Iran in April 2020 and finished in May 2020.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: A motion sensor has been used to detect the entry of waste. Also, using the photovoltaic system, the bucket energy is supplied completely independently and, far from environmental pollution, it emits UV and targets viruses, bacteria, fungi and microbes on the waste surface.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The cross section of the bucket is 60 cm in diameter and 120 cm high
Ability to design in different dimensions

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The necessary information about specifications gathered through the internet and books. The resource of aesthetics aspects and design issues are books and experts knowledge.
CHALLENGE: The challenge of "UV-bin" formation was to design a separate garbage bin from municipal garbage bins, etc, to isolate waste such as masks and gloves that are in direct contact with the coronavirus, and at the same time in the first stage after entering the trash, They can be sterilized and disinfected so that in the next steps of the recycling cycle, they are clean and free of viruses.
