DESIGN NAME: Pearl
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Hand Sanitizer
INSPIRATION: Washing your hands is the most direct action to prevent the infection. Imagine that you go to the bank to take out cash from the ATM. You will have to touch a surface that many others have had contact with throughout the day. On average you will have to wait 30 minutes to have access to soap and water to be able to properly wash your hands. During this time you will touch other objects that could host the virus.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Small pearls that contain the necessary amount of gel to disinfect hands.
The pearls, very similar to hydrogel spheres, work in a very simple way: you just have to squeeze them softly to break them open and rub the contents on your hands. The external shell dissolves in the gel without leaving any residue.
Accessible
A single application ready to use at any moment.
Fast
Just squeeze and rub. No residue.
Social.
Raise awareness in your circle.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Our idea is to also make the pearls easily and hygienically dispensable. We did not want to just create an object that provides a function for an individual, but to create a way of dispensing it to another simply and easily, as if you were offering your friend a piece of gum.
At the same time, placing a large amount of sanitizing pearls in an automatic dispenser, located in spaces where many people pass, can increase the reach of this product to individuals in need of disinfection, in a simple and efficient manner.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: -
CHALLENGE: We worked at full speed to create this concept after the idea came up during a discussion with the design team. We asked ourselves, “What is our responsibility as industrial designers facing a situation like we are in now with COVID-19?
The roles of doctor, chemist and even engineer are easily understood at times like these, but as industrial designers we tend to resign ourselves to projects such as rendering animations or three models of Coronavirus.
