DESIGN NAME: Con Med
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Prefabricated Clinic
INSPIRATION: Seeking for an answer in architecture durability, shipment and construction speed in pandemic situation, designer take the advantage of unused 40 feet container and modify it into a prefabricated clinic. A stack able arrangement with less construction speed than precast building, cheaper and easier to transport at batch delivery in a way more esthetic that also supports recycling thought. Formed as potion box that represent medical principle of its design nature.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: By using unused container, it does have all the advantages of cargo form in durability and shipping. A single container ship could carry up to 11,500 units, which single unit has two occupancy rooms. Land transport could also be done by trailer truck and be placed anywhere as needed. Con Med is a ready made architecture that designed for construction speed, durability and easy to ship. A design that answers with solution in emergency situation.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: As the design took the structure of unused 40 feet container, it is safe to be stacked up to 8 levels. While it does not have any limit on how long it can be attached in row, the only consideration is just the circulatory distance to reach the middle room. The center hole is not just to lock the movement of stacks, hence it gives space for walk circulation and instant arrangement at 12 degree slant. Wide flange steel structures can be added on final steps for stairs and lift which took less than 3 days of total construction.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started on April 2020 in a specific design for War on Virus competition. The location for this prefab architecture can be anywhere as needed, even outreach places. A building that suitable for emergency cases which requires less than 3 days to set up, including land clearance and circulation structure. A durable prefab that can be shipped anywhere and build for mass patients in emergency condition.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Although container box has perfect form in technical as a cargo, it may not be suitable for human spatial configuration. Without changing the size and structure which already perfectly configured for shipping, designer modify it into medical room. Walls are changed with calcium board material to maintain inside temperature, but floor is layered with medical approved vinyl for better soundproof and hygiene matter. Center part is holed as room division, walking circulation and also for slant and stack arrangement lock.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 12.19m long x 2.44m wide x 2.59m high. 2 rooms equipped with handicap friendly shower, toilet, wash bowl, TV, medical bed, medical bed headboard and air conditioner with purifier function. Pre configure 12 degree angle at center lock for easier stack and circulatory structure placement. Maximum 8 stacks.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: By examining at the current situation, as stated on the challenge, designer need to solve the unanswered matters as priority for design solution. Therefore, production cost with minimum skill production ability that can be rapidly manufactured in large quantity is needed to overcome pandemic problem. On another side, building allocation could not be ignored at all cost as it can happen in unpredictable location. Through trial and errors, a modified unused container can be a perfect solution.
CHALLENGE: Pandemic outbreak is an unpredictable situation whereas the number of patient increases dramatically which no hospitals could held. In that case, architects are pushed to design outside the norms to response these difficulties at rational production ability, cost, material selection and pace. While precast architecture and alternating function are being used at many countries, it could not answers cases at outreach place, exact number of occupancy, cross nation support and lack of skill labors.
