PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Table Lamp
INSPIRATION: When using the table lamp, it is sometimes necessary to move the direction of its head back and forth to light the corners. In this design, the parts are separated and combined. Placing them in required positions not only achieve desktop lighting, lighting at night, but also facilitate the storage of scattered items. In addition, the stacking design makes the packaging more compact, and saving packaging and transportation costs.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: It is a multifunctional table lamp made of bamboo. It contains a 10000m Ah charging base and three boxes. These boxes are connected by NdFeB magnets to form the lamp. They can also be used independently as storage boxes for paper clips or night lights. Meanwhile, the stacking design can save packing space and increase packing strength.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Boxes make up different forms of lighting combinations by embedded NdFeB magnets. The LED infrared sensor is used for switching control. When the lighting power is insufficient, the charging base can be used. Pens, rulers and other items can be stored inside the box, and its surface can also absorb scattered paper clips.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Taipei in September 2019 and was completed in Taipei in January 2020.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This design uses 3-6 year-old high-quality ecological bamboo, natural and environmentally friendly. The bamboo shell is treated by high-temperature cooking and carbonization process, and the surface is carefully polished to retain the natural texture.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The table lamp design is a conceptual study. The research goal is to explore the usage of different scenarios through the simplest form; in the meantime, packaging costs and transportation safety are considered for e-commerce sales. User interviews, observations, focus groups, physical use, and drop tests are carried out to achieve the predetermined goals.
CHALLENGE: The side slope of each box should not only ensure the stability of the up-and-down combination, but also ensure that the box can be nested together. After many tests of the 3D printed model, the final slope of the box was 73 degrees.
