DESIGN NAME: Hikaru
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lamp Shade
INSPIRATION: The project was inspired by art installations that play with the design of light and manipulate it. I wanted to design a light fixture that adds character to the environment it is in.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Hikaru means "glow" in Japanese. This concept was created to add character to light emitted. It creates a fan of light beams around the carefully placed slats. The unique construction emphasizes its light and easy construction, flat-pack design and eco-conscience material. The material is lightweight and the product is easy to install.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The concept was designed to be a fun activity by building your own product. The pieces are easy to insert and connect to each other. The material is light and the concept is approachable because of its pure nature. Hikaru is a lightweight lamp shade made for easy assembly and installation. The natural color adds warm to the light projected around it.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The concept was designed and completed in 2018 in Los Angeles, CA.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Lighting Products and Fixtures Design

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I researched methods on how materials can be connected and what material would be usable for all ages. I made a model beforehand to get a better idea of proportions, light design and construction. The model proved to be a success and needed only minor changes to become a final product.
CHALLENGE: The most challenging aspect of the concept was making all of the pieces connect easily and fit securely.
