DESIGN NAME: Formonix
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Office Sofa
INSPIRATION: Formonix sofa is inspired by organic forms and utilized soft and clean lines to grants a sense of tranquility, dynamism, comfort, and harmony. Its name also originated from these concepts. The product combined aesthetics with technology to create a futuristic design solution and a distinctive visual experience for the user.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The smooth and energetic form of the product creates a relaxing but active feeling in a subtle way that balances opposing emotions and reduces stress and lethargy both together. Formonix has a modular structure that eases the production process and shipping. This particular design enables the user to personalize the product and choose different color combinations based on his/her interest, and regarding the interior space decoration. Formonix sofa designed for offices but it is suitable for modern residential spaces too.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The organic and modern style of the product can balance between different emotions in the users by its relaxing and yet energetic form. The users also benefit from its easy personalization, modification, and maintenance due to the modular structure of the product.
Formonix designed in a way to has a dynamic and pleasant view from each direction, so it can be placed anywhere in the room without any limitation.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in September 2019 and finished in March 2020, in Tehran, Iran.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The main structure of the product is made of aluminum with non-permanent joints that ease the product assembling process. The sofa's backrest is formed and supported with curved plywood that can be replaced by molded polypropylene plastic too.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In the first step, the emotional and functional needs of potential users were investigated. Then, it tried to create an appropriate connection between organic forms and design objectives. In the next phase, initial ideas were evaluated on the basis of producibility, functionality, environmental impacts, and appearance. And eventually, the detailed design of the product became prepared for modeling.
CHALLENGE: The greatest challenge in this project was to create a lightweight and modular solution that improves the personalization of the product and reduces materials usage. At the same time, we intended to stimulate the users' emotions by the organic and dynamic form of the product without adding extra complexity.
