DESIGN NAME: Hilab
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Portable Lab
INSPIRATION: The design is inspired by the company values of humanizing medical devices, bringing more inclusivity between health professional and patient.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: With just a few drops of blood from the fingertip, the Hilab device performs laboratory tests using the Immunochromatography and Colorimetry methodologies. Thanks to technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the partnership with Microsoft and Intel, Hilab can take exams in a few minutes, anytime and anywhere.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: After the finger prick, the drops of blood are inserted into the Hilab capsule, it creates a digital copy of the result and transmits it instantaneously via the internet to the Central lab. At the lab, the specialists analyze the result, approve the report and send it back to the patient via SMS, email or through the App. All within 15 minutes. The device performs a wide range of tests, such as pregnancy testing and cardiac markers, HIV, Dengue, Zika Virus, Chikungunya and most recently the Covid - 19.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Is possible to be faster and cheaper than the traditional laboratories, which 40% of the costs are based on the logistics, by transporting samples from the collection point to the laboratory. A physical lab has a capacity limit and with the use of the internet, the cost is absent, decreasing gradually the price of the tests.
CHALLENGE: One of the challenges was to find an adequate form and functionality for the scanner and cartridge that covers a wide range of tests while exalting the humanized approach of the company. On the other hand, we needed to ensure the accurate tests scanning by designing an ideal internal structure, that emphasizes the correct contrast so it could transfer adequately the results into the app.
