| DESIGN NAME: Cute Care PRIMARY FUNCTION: Soft Safety Pen INSPIRATION: We found that the shape and tip of the pen were dangerous sometimes. Many children or special people may accidentally hurt eyes or even swallow the pen. We want to develop a writing tool that can be comprehensive safe. Plastic is an effective safest surface, and the pen’s internal structure that can spring back the refill automatically when it receives external force. Pebble or racquet-like are the harmless shapes, which prevent the pen from hurting the eyes and being swallowed. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Soft Safety Pen maintains the function of pens and can afford all aspects of safe in using. When the pen tip receives external force beyond the writing force, it can quickly retract into the pen body and automatically reappear after that. The material and the shapes can provide adequate protection from accidental eye injury or swallowing during use. It can change refill and be reuse or recycle. Can provide special cute care to infants, child and people with mental health problems. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: It not only maintains the same function as traditional pen, but also can achieve comprehensive protection in safety. Under normal writing force, the pen is not different from traditional pens, but when the pen tip receives external force beyond the writing force , the pen tip can quickly retract into the pen body to remove harm and automatically reappear after that. The appearance of the safety pen is sleek and cute, and the finger grip has a non-slip design, which feels comfortable. There is a refill replacement port and a safety lock to prevent children from disassembling the refill when it is not necessary. The material of the Soft Safety Pen is made by moderate softness plastic, which can ensure the hardness of the pen on write and not be too soft to avoid the chewing. The shape is different from ordinary pens, there are racquet shape, feather shape and pebble shape called Cute Little Racquet，Cute Little Feather, and Cute Little Pebble. The purpose of the shape design is to remove the pen's hidden dangers comprehensive, to prevent users from accidentally hurting themselves or others with pens. In order to develop a writing tool that can protect users in all aspects, the design team started development. The research mainly focuses on the appearance and shape of the pen, the material of the pen, and the retractable manner of the refill, as well as maintaining the writing function, recyclability and recyclability, and the comfort of the pen. CHALLENGE: First, while ensure children or other special population' writing safe, it must still retain the functions of traditional pens. For example, it must be able to replace the refill , so as to achieve the purpose of recycling. Second, the shape of the pen must conform to the physiological structure of our hand to achieve the best grip and writing experience. In the end, the design team applied 3D printing to iterative experiments and found the most suitable shape.
