| DESIGN NAME: Exotic (Li Zu) PRIMARY FUNCTION: Fashion Eyewear INSPIRATION: Exotic eyewear collection included 3 designs. They was inspired by Chinese Nationality Minority Costumes, including Li Zu, Miao Zu, and Salar Zu. They are the main Chinese Nationality Minorities. It presented more Chinese culture, arts, and characteristics to people. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Li Zu eyewear inspired by Li Zu's Costume. Li Zu is one of Chinese Nationality Minority as one of the main minorities in China. Li Zu mainly live in the forrest, so Li Zu has unique culture, arts, and characteristics. The costume has the cultural style. For the color on the designs, it is mainly used black and silver color. It is because the main color for costume is in black color, and the accessories and jewellery made by silver. Therefore, the sunglasses used dark grey color lenses to represent the mainly color of costume, and installed the metal bridge between sun lenses in silver plating color. The shape of the metal bridge like the main accessory from Li Zu, necklace. The metal bridge embossed the line pattern. The line pattern has some meaning from Li Zu that came from the animals or plants. In addition, it filled the shiny colors, including red, yellow, and green, on the embossed area on the metal bridge. It showed off the shiny color from the embroidery on the costume. Moreover, Swarovski crystal stones installed on the sun lens. It represented the shiny and happy hearts from Li Zu, and increase the attractive for people. Also, they have many things sourced from the forrest, including house and, tooling. The eyewear used the sustainable materials, including Swarovski crystal and acetates. The important that hope to use the collection for promoting "Environmental protection". OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Kevin connected with different suppliers from optical industry that they specialized in high quality materials and parts for eyewear. Also, he thinks about the nature of the materials how it could be applied and make new design with functions, for example, Swarovski stones, stainless steel, and sustainable acetate material. In addition, the selected factories for eyewear production has many years’ experience and product high-quality products. It also the approved factories for CSR audit compliance. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in July 2019 in Hong Kong, and finished in October 2019. The debut of the collection was on Hong Kong Optical Fair 2019 in Hong Kong, and London Fashion Week 2020. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The factory use CNC machines for cutting eyewear shape and lens. They installed the Swarovski crystals on lens with glue by hand. The stainless steel metal trim cut by the laser cutting machines, and bending by mold with curve. One of the styles installed the cylinder shape of crystal on temple to make it more shiny and attractive. Also, it is used the sustainable acetate from Mazzucchelli (Italy) to make the temple tip. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Material: 100% Mazzucchelli (Italy) sustainable acetate for temple tip, 100% Stainless steel for front and temple. Dimension:. 145 mm for temple length; Lens Color: black; stone color: white and black; Paint color: Red, Yellow, and Green. Plating color: Matt silver. TAGS: arts, creative, eyewear, fashion, sunglasses RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Many people from Europe and US love Chinese Culture, cultural products, and traditional costume. Therefore, the design concept selected the Chinese Minority Nationality Costume for designing eyewear. Using the major colors, pattern, and accessories from their costume to show off their characteristics and arts on eyewear for presenting their culture and history. Also, people started to focus on environmental protection. It was used the sustainable materials for producing these products. CHALLENGE: The development cost and production cost is very expensive. Also, it is designed for fulfilling the requirements to the consumers that the product is unique with design and creative. Therefore, we cannot do mass production for that model. Actually, it is good for stylizing, maybe it is not easy for the daily life. As a result, we have to do that with limited quantity for production. However, it will increase much costs on models.
