DESIGN NAME: K Plan
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Funerary Facility
INSPIRATION: For this project, environmental problems and ethnic issues have inspired the architect. How to live together and to embrace each other by overcoming such matters was a key theme in the entire process of designing. For the overall shape, the architect has referred to ancient tombs in Asia that are enfolded by nature.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Since it was created for a Korean family in Japan, this funerary facility was designed to let visitors face the sea and Korea beyond the sea, when they pray to a round monument which represents their ancestors. Following Feng Shui and embracing nature, this assemblage of its very nature allows prayers to flow from the mountain to the sea. There are no sharp edges so that qi may flow unimpeded. There is a congregation area so that the building can function as the centre of familial activities.
